Neck skin lifting

The goal of this surgery, known as “facelift”, is to correct dropped cheeks, to lessen the intensity of nasolabial fold, and to restore normal contour of the neck and chin region.

The surgery includes two elements:
1. Lifting of platysma and other solid subdermal tissues;
2. Lifting of skin with removal excess skin.

If the skin is very flappy and if there is a deep skin fold under chin an additional surgery of the mental region may be performed. This surgery’s goal is to join edges of subdermal muscles and thus to significantly increase the efficiency of facelift.

Most often the candidates to undergo this procedure are women and men at the age between 40-55 years; however treatment can be efficient also at a younger and later age.

A surgeon starts incision of the skin from the scalp, continues ahead from the ear in such a manner that the centre of a future scar will be located inside the ear and will be negligible for other people. The incision goes behind the earflap and ends in the limit of hair growth zone.

The scar appeared after the surgery is not visible for people and it is a very important benefit of the surgery.

Anaesthetization

The surgical procedure lasts for several hours and is performed under anaesthesia the option of which is defined by an anaesthesiologist during the preliminary consultancy.

Preparation for the surgery

During two days preceding the surgery you should thoroughly wash your head with shampoos. If you are smoker then you should give up smoking not less than two weeks prior to the surgery and abstain from smoking after it. Otherwise the risk of wound healing disorder increases as smoking prevents blood from arriving to skin vessels.

If you take any medicines you should discuss acceptability of this with a surgeon before the procedure.

The surgery

You will be hospitalized on the day of surgery and, after a brief preparation, the surgery will be performed. After the surgery a gauze bandage will be applied. This bandage will be removed on the following day. After hairwashing and hairstyling you will go home without bandage and with the same hairdo.

Possible complications

If the surgery is performed by an experienced surgeon complications occur very rarely and cause no significant effect on the final result. The most common complication is subdermal blood afflux which is normally very simple to remove.

Sensory decrement of the skin on the cheek to the right from the earflap is always observed. Sensitivity then improves gradually. Subdermal indurations may be also observed, but they eventually disappear.

On the whole, tissue edema and bloodstrokes (bruises) mainly disappear at the end of the third week, what permits you to plan your activity without significant restrictions.

After discharge from the clinic and during first four weeks it is very important to avoid heavy physical activities and not to bend too low to prevent formation of additional bloodstrokes with blood pressure increasing. For the same reason it is contraindicated to receive considerable doses of alcohol and to take hot shower, or to have violent sexual contacts.

You should return to the clinic to have your stitches taken out on the days determined by the doctor.

Results of the surgery

Initial results of the surgery are assessed in 1.5 months. Final result is assessed in another several months, when the scars get their final shapes.
